The Sweden Democrats have been one of the strongest critics of the Transport Administration and have wanted to see a division into a road authority and a rail authority.

Now SD have dropped the demand.

It's true, this is an issue we've been driving for several years, says Thomas Morell, SD's spokesperson in the transport committee.

Today, the proposal to investigate a division of the Transport Administration was dealt with in the Riksdag's transport committee, which was supported by the Green Party and the Social Democrats. The proposal would have had a majority if SD had been on board.

But Morell says he has had a dialogue with the Transport Administration's director-general Roberto Maiorana over the past few months, a dialogue that has intensified over the past week, which has made him change his mind.

With the dialogues we've had, we feel, "fine", they've understood the point. Now we must let them get on with it, try and move forward. For we have a situation that is not acceptable, as late as today there was a stop at Stockholm Central, says Morell.

He says further that the Transport Administration has now announced that the management of the agency will be adapted and improved and will be carried out through a comprehensive system responsibility for the road and rail systems respectively.

An investigation would have dragged on for maybe one, two years. Let them now lay out the system function for road and rail. See to it that rail and road work, otherwise we'll take it politically. Now they have the opportunity to do something themselves.

The Social Democrats' spokesperson Gunilla Svantorp thinks SD's actions are strange, considering they had such a strong stance on the issue.

Morell says he hasn't received any pressure from the other Tidö parties to drop the demand.
