An Iranian court has reduced the prison sentence for the Iranian artist Shervin Hajipour.
Earlier this year, he was sentenced to three years in prison for "inciting people to create unrest and disrupt national security", and eight months in prison for spreading regime-critical propaganda.
This was after Hajipour published the song "Baraye" in connection with the protests in Iran following Mahsa Zhina Amini's death in 2022. The song gathered millions of Iranians and spread worldwide. The year after, he was awarded an American honorary Grammy for the song.
It is now announced that his prison sentence is reduced to around 18 months, reports AFP.
In early August, the artist was ordered to report to prison. One of Iran's most famous actors then encouraged the country's new president, who used "Baraye" in his election campaign, to do something about Hajipour's fate.
