The state-owned mining company LKAB's pellet plant in Svappavaara will be shut down for at least three weeks after a major accident on Sunday evening, reports Di.se with reference to the company.
According to the newspaper, the production stop may actually be significantly longer, and LKAB will provide information later in the week on how long the stop will last.
The accident occurred after a bearing wheel broke.
Another of LKAB's pellet plants in Kiruna is simultaneously shut down for maintenance during the autumn, but according to LKAB's communications director Niklas Johansson, pellet deliveries will not be affected, as there are stockpiles to use.
