A man who was previously employed by the Swedish Defence Radio Establishment (FRA) was charged with grand theft after he attempted to sell equipment from the authorities worth at least 300 000 kronor on Tradera. Now he has been acquitted by the Gotland District Court, writes Helagotland.
It was 2018 when the man took equipment from a container in connection with the closure of one of FRA's stations on Gotland. This included radio equipment and circuit boards.
The man has denied the offence and defended himself by saying that the equipment had been scrapped and was due to be disposed of. The prosecutor, however, has maintained that it involved systematic theft of a very high value.
The court does not think that the thefts were systematic and also questions the value of the goods. The court's finding is that it is theft of the normal kind, which makes the offence time-barred.
