A Swede has been sentenced to death in Iraq.

It is still unclear whether two other Swedes have received the same sentence, according to Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (The Moderate Party).

The Foreign Ministry is working intensively to clarify these allegations, he says.

In early January, a man, who previously held a high position in the criminal Foxtrot network in Sweden, was shot dead in Baghdad.

Three Swedish men are suspected of being involved in the murder and have been arrested. Last week, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that one of them had been sentenced to death in Iraq.

However, the situation remains unclear regarding the other two, who, according to media reports, have also been sentenced to death.

These reports have not been confirmed, which limits the information that can be shared with relatives in Sweden, says Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (The Moderate Party) to TT.

The security situation in Iraq is complicating the work. The Foreign Ministry advises against travel to Iraq, except for a few provinces, and Sweden's embassy in Baghdad has been temporarily relocated to Stockholm since last summer.

Such a warning means that the security situation is considered very dangerous, unpredictable, and can change rapidly. This means that foreign authorities and the Foreign Ministry have limited opportunities to provide consular support, says Billström.

Have personnel from the Foreign Ministry met with the Swedes?

As far as I know, we have not had contact in that way. We have had some contact with the detainees and are in contact with relatives, he says.
