The strike that has crippled the Faroe Islands since May 14th this year has been called off. The Faroese seafarers' union, Havnar Arbeidarafelag, announced this on Sunday evening, according to Danish media.

Together with four other trade unions, they have now signed new agreements with the Faroese employers' association after previously locked positions.

A total of 5,000 workers, almost 10% of the entire population, participated in the strike, which lasted almost a month. Among the striking professions were truck drivers and dockworkers.

During the time the strike was ongoing, the island has been affected by extensive consequences such as a severe fuel shortage and closed schools.

Since April 4th, negotiations on new agreements on the labour market have been ongoing before the parties have now reached an agreement.
