Biden: Netanyahu is not doing enough

USA's President Joe Biden says that Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not doing enough to secure an agreement to release the hostages in Gaza.

In connection with the president's arrival at the White House for a meeting with American negotiators, he gave a clear answer to the question of whether Netanyahu is doing enough:

No.

The president tells several reporters on site that the parties are, however, "very close" to reaching an agreement.

Biden's government has been trying for months to reach an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza and a prisoner exchange between Israel and the terrorist-stamped Islamist movement Hamas.

The president will soon be presenting a proposal – which may be the US's last in the negotiations – for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to The Washington Post.

The whole thing is described as a "now or never" agreement. If Israel and Hamas do not accept the proposal, it may mean the end of the US-led negotiations, according to an anonymous source within Biden's government.

It's not possible to continue negotiating about this. Sooner or later, the process must be shut down, says the official to The Washington Post.

The draft has been prepared together with mediators from Egypt and Qatar, according to the newspaper's information, and will be presented to the warring parties in the coming weeks.

Time and again, the negotiations have broken down when the warring parties have refused to compromise.

Several rounds of negotiations in Qatar and Egypt have also previously been described as the "last chance" to reach an agreement.
