Zaniar Matapour, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for gross terrorist offenses after the shooting at two bars in Oslo in 2022, is appealing the verdict, reports VG.

Two men were killed and nine people were injured in the attack, which took place during the Norwegian capital's Pride week.

As soon as the verdict was announced, Matapour's defense attorney stated that it would likely be appealed.

The prosecutor Hege Salomon has informed the affected parties. They had hoped to be able to move on, according to Salomon.

It will now take even longer before they can get a judicial closure – and thus put this chapter behind them, he says to the newspaper VG.

A total of 312 people have been counted as plaintiffs.

In addition to 30 years in prison, Matapour was also sentenced to pay damages of approximately 112 million Norwegian kronor.

This is the first time someone in Norway has been sentenced to the maximum penalty for terrorism.
