The actress Shelley Duvall has passed away, 75 years old. Duvall died in her sleep at her home in Blanco, Texas, due to diabetes-related complications, says Dan Gilroy, her life partner since 1989, to The Hollywood Reporter.
Duvall played the lead role in seven films directed by mentor Robert Altman, including as the iconic cartoon character Olive Oyl in Altman's version of "Popeye" (Karl-Alfred), where she sang and acted opposite Robin Williams.
But she is most famous for her role as Wendy Torrance, wife to Jack Nicholson's character Jack Torrance, in Stanley Kubrick's horror classic "The Shining" from 1980.
Duvall also portrayed, among other things, a rock journalist in Woody Allen's "Annie Hall" (1977) and played Steve Martin's friend Dixie in "Roxanne" (1987).
Before she left Hollywood for her home state of Texas in the mid-1990s, Duvall had a flourishing career as both an actress and CEO of her own production company Think Entertainment, which created innovative children's games and TV programs that led to two Emmy nominations.
In 2016, Shelley Duvall made a notable interview on the talk show "Dr Phil" where she revealed that she suffered from mental illness. However, in 2022, she returned to acting after two decades with a role in the horror film "The Forest Hills".
