The titans have become accustomed to seeing Daisy Ridley flying between galaxies in "Star Wars," armed with a laser sword.

Now she's come down to earth. In the new film "Young woman and the sea," she plays the first woman to swim across the English Channel.

Before filming, Daisy Ridley trained swimming for six months. But it was then, she emphasizes in the interview with TT.

The woman Daisy Ridley plays in "Young woman and the sea" was Gertrude Ederle, who at the OS in Paris 1924 had won three gold medals. During her career, she set nine world records. In 1926, she became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Earlier, five men had done it – but Ederle had the best time.

Upon her return to New York, she was celebrated with a parade that is still the largest to have taken place in the city.

She sees Gertrude Eberle as a pioneer – a woman who broke barriers for other women.

Shooting was extremely physically demanding, she says. The water was cold, and she was always forced to tackle strong currents.

Kate Winslet said after "Titanic" that she would rather avoid films that take place in water from now on. Does Ridley feel the same way?
