Following TV4's revelation about the Sweden Democrats' troll accounts, the Liberals are now pulling out of their cooperation with the SD in Norrtälje. The decision was made on Tuesday evening at the Liberals' extraordinary member meeting in the municipality, according to several media outlets.
Norrtälje is the first municipality where a council is collapsing due to the revelations in "Kalla fakta". The decision also means that the entire council in the municipality is falling, as it is a right-wing alliance between The Moderate Party, the Christian Democrats, the Liberals, and the Sweden Democrats that currently holds power.
The background is that the Liberals in Norrtälje do not think that the local SD has clearly distanced itself from the fact that the SD at the national level has had anonymous troll accounts on social media.
Later on Tuesday evening, The Moderate Party, the Sweden Democrats, and the Christian Democrats in Norrtälje issued a joint statement, noting that the Liberals are terminating the cooperation, according to TV4 News.
”We regret that the Liberals have chosen to leave the council, which has functioned very well and delivered on point after point in the Norrtälje agreement. The Moderate Party, the Sweden Democrats, and the Christian Democrats will continue to take responsibility for governing Norrtälje municipality for the best interests of our residents, until the political prerequisites have been clarified", the parties write.
