The Cultural Council: More Live Venues Are Needed

The major cities need more venues for live music. This is shown by a new report that the Arts Council has produced on behalf of the government, according to Sveriges Radio P3.

There are many scenes in metropolitan areas, but here it is pointed out that even more scenes are needed in relation to the number of inhabitants, says Kajsa Ravin, General Director at the Cultural Council, to P3.

The Cultural Council has examined the live scenes in five cities: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Borås, and Ljusdal.

In Stockholm, it is primarily medium-sized scenes for an audience of 200-400 people that are lacking, while Gothenburg needs more large scenes, according to the report. In Borås, the supply is generally small. In Ljusdal, on the other hand, there are relatively many live scenes in relation to the municipality's inhabitants, which is explained by a strong local commitment and great cooperation between different actors.

To improve the situation, the Cultural Council proposes, among other things, that the government establishes a three-year development grant and grants for soundproofing the scenes.
