"It was a pure safety measure, and did not pose an immediate danger to passengers or crew," says the Minister of Justice's press secretary Caroline Opsahl in a statement.

Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) and Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) were to travel to Ankara to discuss, among other things, cooperation against terrorism and organized crime.

"Due to technical problems with the government plane, the Foreign Minister and Minister of Justice unfortunately had to turn back to Arlanda during the flight to Turkey," says Opsahl.

"They had looked forward to the meeting in Ankara where they would discuss several important issues. . . A new meeting will be scheduled as soon as possible," the statement reads.

At NATO's top meeting in Vilnius in 2023, Sweden and Turkey agreed that the countries would launch a security dialogue, "Security Compact". Wednesday's meeting would have been the first in that dialogue. In addition to the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime, Russia's war in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, and other foreign policy issues were also on the agenda.
