When national team captain Tomas Axnér presented the Swedish squad for the games in Paris, Dano's name was missing. What's the explanation?

Nina Dano has had a pretty tough spring after the Championship (World Championship) and hasn't felt particularly well. She is not available for this Championship, but will focus on finding her way again, he said at a press conference.

Talking to GP, Dano now reveals that she felt very unwell during the spring. She was then part of the Danish Odense team but left the club in May and broke her contract.

I got panic attacks and didn't feel like I could be myself in that environment. It was initially about not getting to play. But in the end, it was just about it being an environment that didn't suit me. It was an environment that didn't fit me, with a coach who didn't fit what I needed, we didn't have any communication. It was the handball environment itself that didn't suit me. It made me feel very unwell.

Dano says she has received good help from the national team. It was also Axnér, together with the medical team, who made the decision that she should stay home from the Olympic Games.

In hindsight, I understand that it was the right decision, but back then it was tough and it took time to process that decision. But I wouldn't have been capable of playing an Olympic Games, she says.

The 24-year-old now plays for Sävehof.
