The Norwegian ski jumper Daniel-André Tande is hanging up his skis and ending his career.
In an interview with VG, he says:
The fear of jumping on skis has become greater than the joy of jumping on skis. Then I feel that the only right choice is to quit.
Tande was involved in an accident in Planica, Slovenia in 2021. The Norwegian crashed violently and was placed in an artificial coma. He was able to make a comeback later, but is now choosing to quit.
I believe I'm still capable of winning at the highest level. But I know that the fear I have on the ski jump is too great for me to reach that level. It's the fear that remains after the fall in Planica, says the 30-year-old.
At the 2018 Olympic Games, he was part of the Norwegian team that won gold in the team event.
