Boeing has presented its "best and final offer" to the 33,000 employees who are on strike, according to the aircraft manufacturer.
However, the union does not believe that the terms are good enough and is therefore giving a thumbs down. Union representatives stated at a meeting for members on Monday that the company "refused" and that there will therefore not be a ratification meeting on Friday, as Boeing had wished.
The new offer is somewhat more generous and would entail wage increases of 40 percent over the next four years, slightly above the previous bid of 25 percent. However, clearly below the union's original demand of 40 percent over three years.
The strike began on 13 September and currently appears to be continuing. However, it is not only Boeing that is being economically pressured by the industrial action, as the striking employees received their last salaries last week and will no longer be covered by the company's health insurance from October, according to Boeing.
