A court in Bangladesh has launched an investigation into the murder of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six other people in her government. Additionally, several other individuals, including high-ranking police officers, are being investigated in the case. The investigation comes after a man was killed by police in July, during the widespread unrest in the country.
Lawyer Mamun Mia has taken up the case on the initiative of a citizen. According to him, the court in the capital Dhaka has instructed the police to register the case, which is the first step in an investigation according to the country's laws.
Sheikh Hasina resigned in early August and fled to India after several weeks of escalating student protests and unrest, in which hundreds of people have been killed in clashes between demonstrators and police.
On Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina made her first official statement since she was forced to resign.
In a post posted by her son on the X platform, Hasina demands that those responsible for the deadly violence and destruction during the protests that led to her resignation be punished.
