A trash-filled balloon hit the South Korean government headquarters on Wednesday.
North Korea has sent over 2,000 balloons filled with fabric scraps, cigarette butts, fertilizer, and other trash across the border.
The trash that landed at the president's office in central Seoul contained no hazardous material and no one was injured, according to South Korea's security service.
The trash-filled balloons are no longer an unusual sight in the South Korean sky. Wednesday's incident was the tenth time since May that North Korea has sent balloons – so far, over 2,000 have crossed the border.
If it turns out that North Korea specifically targeted the president's office in Seoul, tensions would increase significantly.
North Korea has stated that the balloons are a response to South Korean activists sending political brochures across the border. South Korea, in turn, has responded by broadcasting pop music, propaganda, and news via giant loudspeakers across the border.
