Already the day after they met for the first time – in connection with the presidential debate – US Vice President Kamala Harris and the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump found themselves in the same place. Both attended a memorial ceremony in New York on Wednesday for the victims of the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
Before the ceremony began, Harris approached Trump, shook his hand, and the two spoke for a short while.
During the memorial, the names of the nearly 3,000 victims were read out by relatives.
According to reports, those present will not give any interviews, but Harris made the following statement in connection with the ceremony:
"We feel solidarity with their loved ones. We also honor the extraordinary heroism displayed on that fateful day by ordinary Americans."
It is 23 years today since al-Qaeda's terrorist attack on the USA, when the World Trade Center in New York was destroyed and the Pentagon in Washington was attacked.
