Donald Trump is again getting full access to his accounts on Facebook and Instagram. This is stated by the parent company Meta, according to the news agency Reuters and the news site The Hill.

"When we reviewed our responsibility to allow political voices, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from candidates in the presidential election on the same terms," writes Meta, according to The Hill.

The timing is chosen by the company with consideration to the fact that the two parties' conventions begin next month, with the Republicans' on Monday. Meta will, however, continue to monitor both Trump and other politicians, writes the company.

"All American presidential candidates must adhere to the same rules as all other users on Facebook and Instagram, including the rules intended to prevent hate and incitement to violent acts," writes the company.

Former President Trump was given access to the platforms last year, but with several reservations. These are now being removed, and he will no longer be threatened by the stricter rules that were introduced in response to "extreme and extraordinary circumstances".

These circumstances are clearly that Trump lied about the 2020 election results and his actions during and after the attack on the US Congress on January 6, 2021.

After that, he was completely shut off from the platforms for two years.

As recently as in March this year, Trump wrote on his own social network Trump Social that "Facebook is the people's true enemy".
