Unexpectedly weak retail trade in the eurozone

Retail trade in the eurozone increased by 0.1 percent in July compared to the previous month, according to the statistics agency Eurostat.

This can be compared to the decline of 0.4 percent in June, according to revised figures.

The increase in July was smaller than expected. Analysts had on average counted on a plus of 0.2 percent, according to a compilation of forecasts made by Bloomberg.

Compared to July last year, retail trade in the eurozone decreased by 0.1 percent after the decline of 0.4 percent in June. Even in annual terms, the average forecast was an increase of 0.2 percent, according to Bloomberg.
