The United Kingdom will not oppose the International Criminal Court's (ICC) request for an arrest warrant against Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This is announced by a spokesperson for the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who adds that it is up to the court to decide whether an arrest warrant should be issued or not.
Thus, the new Labour government goes against the conservative predecessor Rishi Sunak's government, which planned to submit a formal objection to the arrest warrant.
Starmer's decision means that he also goes against the USA on this issue.
The ICC's chief prosecutor announced in May that he wants to see an arrest warrant against Israel's Prime Minister and Defense Minister, as well as three high-ranking leaders within the terrorist-stamped Hamas, due to suspected war crimes and crimes against humanity in connection with the terrorist attack against Israel on October 8 and the subsequent Gaza War.
An arrest warrant against Netanyahu would mean that all countries that have ratified the ICC's basic document, the Rome Statute, must arrest the Prime Minister if he sets foot there.
