According to what Reuters reports, referring to two Egyptian sources, no progress has actually been made during the recent talks, which began on Thursday and were paused on Sunday.
The talks have now been going on month after month, almost since the beginning of the war following Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel on October 7. Some analysts doubt the prospects of success and the willingness of the parties to reach an agreement, while desperation grows among civilians in Gaza as well as among Israeli relatives of the hostages held by Hamas.
The American source claims that the weekend's talks were constructive and that the parties want to see a "final and implementable agreement."
The Cairo meetings over the weekend were held with the USA, Egypt, and Qatar as mediators between Israel and Hamas. CIA chief William Burns and David Barnea from Israel's Mossad participated, while Hamas was indirectly informed about the talks.
