At least 13 Palestinians were killed in Israeli air raids on refugee camps in central Gaza on Saturday night, according to Palestinian authorities.

Among the dead in the Nuseirat and Bureij refugee camps were three children and a woman, according to Palestinian ambulance medics. The 13 bodies were counted by AP news agency journalists on the scene.

In Cairo, international mediators, including the US, are continuing to try to persuade Israel and Hamas to reach a peace agreement that can stop the war and free the approximately 120 Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Fruitless negotiations between the warring parties have been ongoing since a week-long ceasefire in November. Both Hamas and Israel have repeatedly accused each other of sabotaging the negotiations before they could reach an agreement.
