24-year-old Åberg got problems with a meniscus before the US Masters in April, a major debut that still ended with a successful second place.
A shorter rest period followed later in the spring, but Åberg has since been able to complete the season as planned.
Åberg announced the operation directly after the final round of the PGA Tour's final event at East Lake outside Atlanta, Georgia.
The blue-and-yellow golf star started the day in 10th place, but finished in 16th place.
The game swung a bit at the beginning of Sunday's round. On the sixth, he made a bogey, on the seventh, he sank a long chip for a birdie, and on the eighth, a long eagle putt rolled in. The last nine holes then offered two birdies and three bogeys, and the round ended on 70 strokes, one under par.
Åberg receives $795,000 (approximately eight million kronor) for 16th place, which concludes his first full season on the PGA Tour.
According to Aftonbladet, Åberg expects to be able to compete later this year.
