In the fall of 2023, the National Forum for Explosive Safety was commissioned by the government to intensify its work on preventing and preventing illegal explosions.
Now, 30 proposals for measures have been submitted to the government for consideration.
“The recent explosions are often carried out by individuals linked to organized crime and not infrequently use legal explosives that have fallen into the wrong hands or homemade explosives,” says Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, Director-General of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB, in a press release.
Among other things, it is proposed that personal “fitness certificates” be introduced to handle explosives. This is to quickly detect if individuals with access to explosives are engaging in criminal activity. It is also proposed that MSB should be given increased powers to monitor the municipalities' supervision of the handling of explosive goods.
The National Forum for Explosive Safety consists of a total of eleven authorities, including MSB, the Swedish Armed Forces, and the Police Authority.
