Larsson in training – now Frankfurt speaks out

The midfielder Hugo Larsson left the national team gathering after a conflict with the national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson. The explanation then was that Larsson had an injury, but on Tuesday the 20-year-old was in training with the club team Eintracht Frankfurt.

Through a video on the German Bundesliga club's social media, it emerged that Hugo Larsson participated in Tuesday's team training.

Later in the day, Eintracht Frankfurt issued a written statement that Larsson left Sweden's national team with mild thigh problems, but that a closer examination at the German club did not reveal any further deviations. As a precautionary measure, the Swede will be examined again within the next few days.

Larsson was openly disappointed that he did not get playing time against Azerbaijan – and that national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson publicly stated that the Eintracht Frankfurt player needs to play more offensively.

Denies conflict

I told him that I would have liked it to stay between us. Some things should stay within the family, said Larsson on Saturday, two days after the 3–1 away win against Azerbaijan.

On Sunday morning – the same day Sweden met Estonia in Solna – the news came that Larsson was leaving the gathering. According to the national team, it was due to Larsson having an injury feeling.

After the 3–0 win against Estonia, Tomasson denied that there was a conflict between the national team coach and Larsson.

Hugo felt something on Tuesday, but fought on. Yesterday, he felt something again during the small-sided game. He talked to the medical team. Hugo made the decision to go home, said the Dane.

"Much speculation"

TV4 Football Channel reported over the weekend that Hugo Larsson was told to leave the gathering. Something that national team manager Stefan Pettersson denied.

That he went home had only to do with his injury feeling. There is so much speculation, but we know what we're doing, said Pettersson.

Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski – national team captain in the absence of Victor Nilsson Lindelöf – does not think the controversy is something to get worked up about.

Sometimes there are problems in a family. You don't have to think the same all the time, said Kulusevski after the Estonia match.
