Rally star Sébastien Ogier sustained no serious injuries in the crash during Tuesday's training.
He had to stay in hospital overnight for observation – and will not start in the Polish World Championship rally.
Finn Kalle Rovanperä will replace him.
Ogier and his co-driver Vincent Landais were involved in a head-on collision with a car while they were out reconnaissance on a minor road ahead of the rally.
The crash was violent. Ogier and the driver of the other car were airlifted to hospital, Landais and the passenger in the car were taken by ambulance.
All those involved complained of pain, Ogier in his chest and neck.
The Toyota team soon provided reassuring news about their drivers. None of them had suffered any serious injuries. Landais was able to leave hospital on Tuesday evening, but Ogier had to stay for observation.
The rally starts on Thursday and Ogier – eight-time World Champion – will not be able to complete his reconnaissance.
Therefore, the decision was made to withdraw the Frenchman from the competition. In haste, Finn Kalle Rovanperä and co-driver Jonne Halttunen will replace him instead. Toyota has been granted dispensation by the International Automobile Federation, FIA, writes Yle.
Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta are the other Toyota drivers.
