After the Dropout – Sweden Ready to Take Over

Ulricehamn is ready to take over as World Cup organizer in winter after Nove Mesto's withdrawal. We are interested if the question comes from the Swedish Ski Association, says Jesper Fritzson, chairman of the World Cup company Ulricehamn Ski Event.

The Czech Nove Mesto has announced that they do not have the economic possibilities to arrange the World Cup competitions on January 31-February 2.

Ulricehamn is ready to fill the gap.

I have told the Swedish Ski Association that we are interested if they ask the question, says Jesper Fritzson.

Ulricehamn has arranged World Cup ski competitions in 2017, 2019, and 2021. They were also intended to be the organizer in 2023, but were rejected at the last minute, which created great disappointment.

We have worked against the wind for three years, but the strategy has always been to get back a World Cup arrangement, says Fritzson.

He explains that Ulricehamn therefore has both economic possibilities and an organization to take over the arrangement on short notice.

The decision now lies with the Swedish Ski Association and Fis (International Ski and Snowboard Federation), says Fritzson.

Lars Öberg, cross-country skiing chief at the Swedish Ski Association, explains that he has been in contact with both Ulricehamn and those responsible within Fis.

We know that Sweden wants to arrange more World Cup competitions. We have a dialogue with Fis. Then, for contractual reasons, I cannot comment further.

We naturally hope that a decision comes as soon as possible, says Öberg.

Falun is currently the only Swedish World Cup organizer in winter.
