New Caledonia's international airport is to reopen from Monday, according to local authorities. The airport has been closed for a month due to the violent unrest that has taken place in the French territory in the Pacific.

Seven people died in the riots, which broke out in mid-May when the French National Assembly was to introduce new rules for which inhabitants of the archipelago are allowed to vote. On 31 May, France's interior minister stated that the situation was under control again, after President Emmanuel Macron promised not to impose the criticised voting regulations.

The airport is now to open during the day, and the curfew, which has been in place from 6 pm, will be pushed back to 8 pm.
