Al-Qaeda leader Amin ul-Haq has been arrested by Pakistani anti-terror authorities in the province of Punjab. He is accused of planning "sabotage activities targeting important installations" in the country.

Ul-Haq has, among other things, been responsible for security for the terrorist network's now deceased leader Osama bin-Laden.

"The arrest of Amin Ul-Haq is a major victory in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Pakistan and in the world", it is stated in a statement from Punjab's anti-terror authorities.

Ul-Haq was arrested in Pakistan as early as 2008. Three years later, he was released and the Pakistani authorities claimed that it was not possible to prove that he had connections to al-Qaeda.

After the Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan in August 2021, he appeared in Nangarhar province in Afghanistan. In August, he is said to have visited Afghanistan again to reorganize al-Qaeda, according to Pakistani authorities.
