Ashamed after the attempts – Bengtström to the semifinal

He was ashamed after the attempts. After the re-qualification, Carl Bengtström left Stade de France with a significantly better feeling. — Nice to be back at a decent level again, he says after 48.63 and securing an Olympic Games semi-final on 400 meters hurdles.

The Swede was the first to cross the finish line and shortly afterwards, he celebrated with a small jump while clenching his fist.

In the same second, the disappointment from the attempts vanished.

This means a lot. I know that my form is there and the only explanation I have for the attempts is that I wasn't on top of my game and generally out of rhythm, he says.

I'm highly ranked and shouldn't be out in the qualifying rounds. I was a bit ashamed yesterday (Monday) actually. It's nice to be able to bounce back.

With the failed first race at Stade de France, Bengtström now has three races in two days, as the semifinal will be decided as early as Wednesday evening.

But that's no concern for the Swede.

The 24-year-old says that his body usually responds well to races and therefore he's aiming to get a good time in the battle to qualify for the final.

I'm here to fight until the end. Of course, I want to make it to the final, but it's a damn high level and it's going to be tough. But anything can happen.

I'll fight for a personal best or a Swedish record, that's the mindset I have.

Oskar Edlund didn't fare as well in Paris and the 21-year-old's Olympic Games came to an end after 48,99 in the qualifying round.

I'm disappointed. I wanted to make it to the semifinal, but I didn't manage it, he says.
