The Moderate Party, Christian Democrats, and Sweden Democrats wanted to abolish the Equality Agency. But on Saturday, it became known that the government is allocating an additional 72 million kronor to the agency next year.

Now we are strengthening the Equality Agency, and we are not doing it because we have plans to shut it down later. The Liberals will fight to ensure that it does not happen, says Minister for Equality Paulina Brandberg (L) to Expressen.

Whether this means that the agency will remain until 2026 remains to be seen.

It was last year that the government announced that it would embark on a hunt for authorities, with the Sweden Democrats as the driving force.

The Sweden Democrats' economic policy spokesperson Oscar Sjöstedt told TT that there are many authorities that can be abolished. When asked if it applied to the agency that is now receiving millions in additional funding, he said:

The Equality Agency is not the most prioritized to keep, in my world.
