A zookeeper at Skansen-Aquarium in Stockholm was hospitalized for nine days after being bitten by a lancehead viper. The incident is now being reported to the Work Environment Authority.

The zookeeper was going to change the water for the snake, which is temporarily located at Skansen-Aquarium, when he was bitten in two fingers. The man was transported to the hospital where he remained for over a week. His arm and hand have been "very swollen and very painful", according to the report in Aftonbladet.

The employee is now on the road to recovery, says Jonas Wahlström at Skansen-Aquarium to Upsala Nya Tidning. The snake, which was originally found in Uppsala, is still at Skansen-Aquarium.

The lancehead viper is a venomous snake that naturally inhabits Central America and northern South America. It is considered one of the world's most aggressive venomous snakes.
