Ludvig Åberg was on his way to a fine finish in the PGA tour's first playoff tournament in Memphis, Tennessee, but had to settle for 68 strokes (two under par) on the final round. He finished with a total of 3 under par.

With that, he finished in 40th place, 14 strokes behind the winner Hideki Matsuyama, who went around in 17 strokes under par. For that effort, the Japanese player also received a prize check of 3.6 million dollars, approximately 37 million kronor.

Norwegian Viktor Hovland took a shared second place.

Alex Norén went around in a total of five strokes under par and finished in 30th place.

The top 50 on the Fedex Cup ranking after the first playoff tournament will play the second playoff tournament in Castle Rock, Colorado, this week. Both Ludvig Åberg and Alex Norén made the 50-cut, Åberg with a large margin.

The second playoff tournament will further narrow the field – the top 30 will play the tour final on East Lake in Atlanta, Georgia, August 29–September 1.

Åberg is now ranked seventh and has qualified for the second playoff tournament.

Alex Norén was ranked 42nd before the stop in Memphis and is now in 45th place.

Corrected version: In an earlier version, the wrong playing venue and date for this week's second playoff tournament were stated.
