After less than a year as AIK manager, Henning Berg is leaving the club. The Norwegian has chosen to resign with immediate effect.

It is a disagreement over how the club wants to work going forward that lies behind Henning Berg's decision to leave "Gnaget". Berg took over AIK as recently as last summer and only managed 35 competitive matches at the club.

"Henning Berg has given 100 per cent for AIK Football from day one. An impressive work rate and dedication are what I want to highlight as his strongest sides. His determination is another strong side, but also the side that now makes us part ways today", says AIK's sports manager Thomas Berntsen in a press release.

He continues:

"Different views between AIK and Henning on how the club should work to become a top team in Allsvenskan again and qualify for Uefa games became decisive for his departure".

When Henning Berg joined AIK, the club was in crisis, but the Allsvenskan contract was eventually secured. This season has been a rollercoaster ride for the Solna team, which has alternated between good matches and a couple of heavy defeats. This is also reflected in the table, where AIK is stuck in mid-table, eighth in Allsvenskan during the summer break.

"When I now choose to leave AIK, it is because we have been internally divided about the way forward in recent times. We have different views on the game of football and how we can best develop the team and individual players", says 54-year-old Berg.

AIK plays its next match in Allsvenskan on 7 July, at home against Kalmar FF. It is not clear who will replace Henning Berg.
