The host nation USA is out of the Copa América after losing 0–1 to Uruguay, the Americans' second loss in three matches.
The match's only goal came in the 66th minute when Uruguay's Mathias Olivera capitalized on a rebound after a free kick. Olivera seemed to be offside, but the goal was approved after a video review.
The elimination is a disappointment for national team coach Gregg Berhalter, who returned to the USA's national team in June last year and likely hoped to show that they had developed since the loss to the Netherlands in the World Championship 2022.
But despite a lineup featuring players like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tyler Adams, the team failed to even match their result from their last Copa América appearance, when they were eliminated by Argentina in the quarterfinals in 2016.
