Thousands of people gathered in the square in Georgia's capital Tbilisi to celebrate the recently returned national football team.

After a bus parade, the players stepped up onto a stage and were hailed by, among others, Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobachidze and President Salomé Zurabisjvili.

This day is a miracle. This is the Georgia I want, says Zurabisjvili.

Georgia achieved a historic feat in the European Championship, their first championship ever since independence in 1991.

They advanced from the group stage, including a notable upset win with 2–0 against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.

In the round of 16, they were stopped by Spain, but the performances in the European Championship by Chvitja Kvaratschelia, Georges Mikautadze, Giorgi Mamardashvili and the rest of the team were good enough to be hailed as heroes.
