Boy dies after accident at Skara summer land

A boy in his teens has died after a drowning accident at Skara Sommarland on Saturday. Our thoughts go to the child's family and relatives, says Christoffer Östling, acting CEO of Skara Sommarland, to TT.

It was around two o'clock in the afternoon when the boy was discovered in a pool by one of the park's lifeguards. The lifeguard picked up the boy and began CPR until the ambulance arrived.

He had to be taken by ambulance helicopter to the hospital, but his life could not be saved, says police spokesperson Caroline Karlsson.

For some reason, he ended up under the water and couldn't get back up.

The police have filed a report on the death without suspicion of crime.

We are not investigating further since there is no criminal activity behind the death, says Caroline Karlsson.

The Waterland remains closed

After extra meetings with employees during Saturday and Sunday, Skara Sommarland has decided to keep the water park closed on Sunday. The amusement park section is still open, however.

It's incredibly tragic what happened, says Christoffer Östling, acting CEO of Skara Sommarland to TT.

Östling states that employees at Skara Sommarland are affected by the incident and will receive extra support during the day through conversation support.

Internal investigation initiated

There is no further information about the course of events, but the accident occurred at the upper Sagopool where lifeguards patrol, according to Östling.

The incident is now being investigated internally.

We will review all aspects of this. Both the staffing and the areas we patrol. Exactly how the investigation will look, I cannot go into, says Christoffer Östling.

Corrected: In an earlier version, the wrong day for the accident was stated.
