A children's hospital in London has warned the parents of over 700 children that they may have suffered lifelong nerve and muscle damage after being operated on by a named surgeon. This is reported by BBC.
The surgeon worked as an expert in pediatrics at Great Ormond Street Hospital between 2017 and 2023, and many of the 721 children he treated are at risk of having suffered permanent damage.
22 of the 39 children who have been examined so far have been confirmed as injured – 13 of them with a high risk of permanent nerve and muscle damage. At least one child has unnecessarily been forced to amputate a leg, and several others have undergone painful operations.
According to a report, employees warned about the doctor as early as six months after he was hired, but this did not reach the management until 2022. The hospital management claims that they initiated an investigation three weeks after receiving the warnings.
The surgeon, who no longer has a medical license in the UK, is now working in Dubai, according to BBC.
