There will be an expanded care strike on Tuesday, according to the Swedish Association of Health Professionals' press service for TT.

Preliminary figures suggest that an additional 1,300 union members will go on strike.

Helene Lindstrand, press officer at the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), said on Monday morning that they were awaiting a proposal from the mediators.

At 4 pm, the Swedish Association of Health Professionals announced that the negotiations had been concluded for the day and that there would be an expanded strike with approximately 1,300 members participating. This figure may be adjusted.

Previously, it was mentioned that 1,900 members would go on strike.

In the local negotiations regarding the potential societal impact of the strike, the parties have reached an agreement. Among other things, large parts of the threatened strike at Ystad Hospital have been withdrawn, but partly replaced by other measures. Also in Västmanland, the entire warning was withdrawn on Friday evening after local negotiations. Similarly, in Värmland, there have been some changes to the original strike warning.

Overall, the local negotiations have resulted in the union withdrawing a few hundred threatened persons, according to a rough estimate from SALAR. No strike action has yet been referred to the central board, which has the final decision on whether a strike action is considered socially harmful or not.

The healthcare conflict between the union and the employers has been ongoing since the end of April, initially with mainly overtime blockade. Since 4 June, several regions have also been on strike.

The big question between the parties concerns shorter working hours – the union believes the situation is unsustainable, while the employers claim that working hour reductions are not economically possible.

On 25 April, the Swedish Association of Health Professionals' overtime blockade came into effect for approximately 63,000 members in the country's regions. The blockade was expanded on 20 May to also include several larger municipalities and an additional 5,000 members.

On 21 May, the Swedish Association of Health Professionals extended its conflict warning to include a strike in five regions: Stockholm, Västra Götaland, Skåne, Östergötland, and Västerbotten. The strike came into effect on 4 June for around 2,000 people.

The union has warned of an expanded strike from 11 June, including in Värmland and Västmanland. The warning for Västmanland has since been withdrawn, and an exception has been agreed upon for Värmland.
