There were four Swedes on the pitch when Chelsea hosted Real Madrid.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd made her presence known immediately when she laid the groundwork for Chelsea's 1-0 lead in the second minute with a left-footed pass that German Sjoeke Nüsken scored via Real Madrid's Sheila Garcia.

The BBC reporters praised the Swede - and meant that her diligence in learning to play equally well with both feet had given her a new dimension in the game and that she had been important for Chelsea in every match this season.

Nüsken was later fouled in the penalty area and the referee blew for a penalty. Norwegian Guro Reiten scored in the pouring rain at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's Swedish goalkeeper Zecira Musovic then made a double save on a Real Madrid attack, but a few minutes later, she let the ball slip between her legs when Alba Redondo reduced the score to 1-2.

In the second half, Chelsea extended their lead to 3-1 through Mayra Ramirez. And Linda Caicedo made it 2-3 for Real Madrid.

Aside from Rytting Kaneryd and Musovic, Nathalie Björn played in Chelsea's central defense and Filippa Angeldahl on Real Madrid's midfield.

There was also a Swede in focus in the other match in Group B - coach Elena Sadiku, who took Celtic to the Champions League group stage as the first Scottish team. At the same time, she became the youngest coach in Champions League history (30 years and 336 days) and broke Julian Nagelsmann's record (31 years and 58 days).

Celtic lost the first match against Twente with 0-2, however.
