Chinese citizens have been killed or gone missing after an armed attack in Congo-Kinshasa, confirms the Chinese state.
It was on Wednesday that local sources reported that at least four Chinese nationals were killed in a militia attack on a mine in the gold-rich Ituri province in northeastern Congo-Kinshasa.
According to China's Foreign Ministry, the attack was directed at a private Chinese company. The ministry has not specified the number of dead.
China expresses its strong condemnation of this attack, says Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
Attacks on mines are common in Congo-Kinshasa, as are conflicts over gold between Congolese citizens and Chinese miners.
