A cruise ship broke free from the quay in Norwegian Tromsø on Tuesday, Norwegian media reports.

“It is unclear whether it is due to the weather or other conditions,” the police announced on X.

The rescue center was later able to determine that a mooring rope at the quay had broken and caused the ship to start drifting. The cruise ship Caribbean Princess accommodates 3,100 passengers plus 1,200 crew members.

A tugboat was called to the scene and was able to tow the ship back to the quay.

There is nothing to suggest that anyone was injured, says incident commander Lennart Steffensen to the local newspaper iTromsø.
