Iran attacks Israel - "Revenge for Nasrallah"

Iran has launched a robot attack on Israel, reports Israel's military. Air raid sirens are sounding across the entire country.

"A short time ago, rockets were fired from Iran towards the state of Israel," says the military in a statement.

According to AP's reporters on the spot, explosions are heard in Tel Aviv and near Jerusalem.

Iran confirms that tens of ballistic rockets have been fired towards Israel. The attack is a revenge for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and a commander of the Revolutionary Guard, says Iran's Revolutionary Guard in a statement.

At the same time, Israel's army reports that the attack continues – and President Joe Biden has ordered the US military to help Israel's air defense and shoot down rockets.

Israel, Iraq, and Jordan announce that they have closed their airspace.

Earlier Warning

Earlier on Tuesday, American sources warned that Iran would soon carry out a ballistic rocket attack on Israel.

"We actively support defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack," said a source.

The source also warned that an attack on Israel "will have serious consequences for Iran".

Before the attack, Israel's army announced that the country is ready to "defend and attack".

The Iranian shelling of Israel will have consequences, said Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for Israel's army, reports Haaretz.

"Seek Shelter"

The US embassy in Israel has urged its employees and their families to seek shelter on the spot. And Israel's military has urged Israelis to stay near shelters.

Iran has previously said that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah's death will lead to "Israel's destruction". However, on Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry stated that the country will not send soldiers to fight against Israel.

In April this year, Iran attacked Israel with hundreds of drones and rockets. Then, most of the projectiles were shot down. The attack was said to be a revenge after an Israeli attack that killed high-ranking Iranian military personnel at Iran's consulate in Syria.
