The Danish men's national football team has decided not to request a salary increase in their new agreement with the Danish Football Association (DBU).

This is to improve the conditions and ensure equal pay for the Danish women's football team.

I welcome this extraordinary initiative to take this small step in the right direction, says Magnus Hviid, spokesperson for the players' union Spillerforeningen, to AFP.

Hviid acknowledges that there is still more to be done.

There are more glass ceilings to break to ensure equal opportunities and conditions within the national teams.

The men's team's decision means that the women's team will now receive the same basic salary and bonus for away matches, as well as improved insurance.

However, because the women players do not receive a bonus for home matches, there are still differences between the teams.
