The Juniors Lifted Skellefteå – Clear Victory over Växjö

Young Skellefteå impressed when they won their home premiere against Växjö with 4–0. The reigning champions lined up with six juniors, but it was still no contest. Skellefteå started their home games in the same brilliant way as they ended the season last spring.

We humbly thank you for the lesson. We meet a much better team and there's no question that we get a fair beating today, says Växjö's coach Jörgen Jönsson after the team's second straight loss.

For Skellefteå, this means a second straight win, largely thanks to the team's young players.

Two of the juniors were able to score their first goals in the top league.

It's getting better and better now. I'm more involved in the game and I think I'm taking steps for every match. Almost got a memory lapse after my goal, says a sparkling happy Oskar Vuollet.

The 18-year-old scored goals last season when Skellefteå's J20 team became Swedish champions. But despite a number of matches in the A-team, the debut goal has been delayed until now.

After a passing play with Axel Sandin Pellikka, he scored 2-0 in the final seconds of the first period. The period had been dominated by Skellefteå, who with high speed and intense pressure didn't give Växjö a chance to create any longer attacks.

At 17.42 in the opening period, Skellefteå had made it 1-0 since Oscar Lindberg had snatched the puck and served goal-scorer Anton Heikkinen.

Borrowed in

Skellefteå's long injury list on the defense had been temporarily alleviated with the help of Stefan Milosevic, who was borrowed from Bik Karlskoga and performed well.

We have a super tough situation and barely any defenders left. Then we're of course grateful to Bik Karlskoga for letting us borrow him. I'm pleased with him and with our performance and that we keep our calm despite all our young players, says Skellefteå's coach Robert Ohlsson.

He also got to see Leo Sundqvist, another 18-year-old, present himself and score his very first SHL goal in the beginning of the third period. That meant 3-0.

Sweaty return

For Växjö defender Petter Granberg, it was a sweaty return to Skellefteå, where he had spent most of his career.

Especially coming here, of course, when you're sitting in the other dressing room, says the defender, who now has something to bite into. In two matches, normally tight Växjö has now let in nine goals.

It's clearly something we don't want and something we have to try to screw on and solve. We lose our structure, lose pucks, and offer chances, says the new Växjö defender.
