Israel released 55 imprisoned Palestinians on Monday, according to a person within the Palestinian health department. One of them is said to be a hospital chief who was imprisoned in November during an Israeli raid on Shifa Hospital in Gaza.
After the hospital chief was released, he appeared publicly in a video where he accuses Israel of "arresting everyone, including medical personnel" and that prisoners "die from torture", reports the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
Israel denies the allegations and in turn accuses Hamas of taking shelter in hospitals and using them for military purposes. Hospitals can lose their protection under international law if they are used for military purposes.
The war between Israel and the Islamist terrorist-stamped Hamas has been ongoing for almost eight months after Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on the morning of October 7. Approximately 1,150 people, mostly civilians, are estimated to have fallen victim to the terrorist attack, and more than 200 people were taken hostage.
Israel responded by declaring war. They have besieged Gaza, bombed the coastal strip continuously, and entered with ground forces with the explicit purpose of annihilating Hamas.
