The EU Commission reaches a settlement with Apple regarding the company's mobile wallets. The agreement comes after Apple agreed to more easily open up to other developers.

We accept Apple's commitments as they create a level playing field in terms of both security and user-friendliness. And they are easy to implement for both Apple and other wallet developers, says Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager at a press conference in Brussels.

The dispute over the wallets began as early as 2020 when the Commission accused Apple of exploiting its dominant market position and hindering its competitors. However, since last winter, various measures have been discussed, which now result in the commitments that Apple promises to follow for at least ten years.

Meanwhile, several other disputes between the EU Commission and Apple remain, including those concerning the fees that the company charges other developers for access to the App Store.
