There has been a severe fire in a sawmill near Kalix, resulting in heavy smoke development. The rescue service issued a VMA, important message to the public, in Kalix and Grytnäs in Kalix municipality, but shortly after 9 am on Saturday, the danger was over.
The alarm about the fire came in shortly after 2 am on Saturday, reports NSD. The building, which was burning with open flames, is several hundred meters long.
At half past five, the rescue service told the newspaper that there was no longer any risk of spread.
They will let the building burn down under controlled forms, says the rescue service's operations manager to NSD.
According to the rescue service, there are no reports of anyone being injured. At present, it is unknown how the fire started.
